MTN Cameroon launched on November 28, 2014, a new tariff offer called "MTN Freedom" whereby a minute of communication is now charged only 30 Cfa francs, against 45 Cfa francs in the past.
"Our wish, since the implementation of MTN in Cameroon in 2000 has always been to offer Cameroonians, simple, innovative and affordable solutions to meet their communication needs. Also, we always want to make sure that we offer you the most advantageous rates, every time that our operating costs permit, commented Karl Toriola, the DG of MTN Cameroon, in a "letter to over 11 million subscribers".
With its new offer, MTN Cameroon joins the tariff plan of its main competitor, Orange Cameroon. Indeed, the French telecoms operator has launched since March 2014 packages such as 'Plenty Classic, Fun, Relax and Smart', which offered a minute of communication at 30 Cfa francs for calls on the national territory.
We also remember similar offer by Orange Cameroon which was launched a few days after a press conference of the Cameroon subsidiary of South African telecoms giant, during which MTN Cameroon was availed to have better national pricing of calls "French-speaking Africa at 45 FCfa per minute".
This offer "MTN Freedom" however can be deemed as a strategy of the leader of mobile telephony in Cameroon, aimed at retaining subscribers pre-paid (more than 80% of the clients of the company) with the arrival of a new mobile operator (since September 2014).
So far, while enjoying exclusive rights to 3G, Nexttel offers higher rates than those of its two competitors and predecessors of the telecoms market in Cameroon.
