MTN says it’s still waiting to see a copy of a report claiming it owes the Cameroonian government millions in unpaid taxes.
An anti-corruption commission has probed the telecoms sector in the central African country and says several companies, including MTN, collectively owe $166 million in unpaid taxes.
MTN’s Chris Maroleng says, “We are in full compliance with these tax matters and consistently engage with the government of Cameroon. We haven’t received a formal copy of the report, when we do we’ll get back to them with our position on some of the allegations.”
Meanwhile, MTN is contesting a $3.9 billion fine in Nigeria, for failing to disconnect users with unregistered sim cards.
