Minader launches Sapep program

Minader launched a program to boost their performance on Friday in Yaoundé. The program focussed on how to improve the productivity of smallholder farmers (Apape/Sapep).

It was during a ceremony presided over by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development (Minader), Jean Claude Eko'o Akouafane in the presence of a representative of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Director general of the Institute of agricultural research and development (Irad).

The Sapep program evolved from the perspective of the new projects of improvement of productivity of the agricultural sector support program to Cameroon. It concerns crops such as corn, bean cassava and groundnuts.

Funded by the IDB for five years, it has to contribute to the increase in the productivity of the production systems in upland and irrigated system made by small-scale farmers.

Its strategies will be among others the optimization of the use of improved seeds and the access of products to markets.

Dr. Tarcisius Nyobé national coordinator of the project said that the Apape/Sapep will be implemented in 15 departments of the country. Jean Claude Eko'o Akouafane has recommended measures to ensure that the use of fertilizers improve by 50% and performance of farms of the beneficiaries improved by 75%.
