Minhdu seeks to combat global warming in Douala

A plant for the capture and treatment of biogas was inaugurated Thursday by Minhdu. "Urban areas and their high concentration of people and industries will be the most affected by climate change. The waste management problems is greater in Douala than other cities". By these words, Jean-Claude Mbwentchou, Minister of housing and urban development, welcomed the advent of central collection and processing of biogas from Douala. This facility was inaugurated by Minhdu 20 November at Pk10 at the Hysacam waste treatment centre.

Arlette Tchapoya, head of the MPD projects for the company, explained the function of the plant: "it's a unit that will permit the transformation of methane, emitted by the decomposition of waste as well as other gases. The construction of this plant lasted eight months.

Its total cost is estimated at $ 3.5 billion F. Michel Ngapanoun, DG of Hysacam, evoked the need for such a station: "the current confusion between the seasons shows that the climate is deteriorating. This plant is part of our contribution to the fight against global warming by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

To Fritz Ntone Ntone, delegate of the Government with the Douala Urban community: "for a city like Douala, which produces nearly 1,500, sometimes 2,000 tonnes of household waste per day, it is necessary to learn how to treat the waste in the long term. That is why Douala, encouraged by the Government has taken the bull by the horns to make these investments".
