Public telecoms operator Camtel goes solar

Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel), public telecom operator of Cameroon will acquire for nearly one billion CFA francs (987 million CFA francs), solar panels to power 31 sites with facilities across the country.

David Nkotto Emane, Camtel’s Managing Director said it is the 800 sites that will be solar illuminated.

This is the outcome of the partnership agreement signed September 10, 2014 in Yaounde, between the public telecom company and the company Living Energy Cameroon, led by Kenneth Mungu.

According to Camtel’s Managing Director,through this gradual migration to solar energy, the operator hopes to reduce its production costs, and thus catalyze the lower cost of telephone communication services and Internet offered to its customers.
