Criminals disguised in the uniforms of Razel Cameroon employees managed to run away with 107 million FCFA on the evening of staff payday.
Armed with guns, the robbers stormed the premises specializing in construction, in Bonapriso, Douala at around 3pm and stole envelopes containing monthly salaries due for release the next day.
The unexpected visitors fled aboard motorcycle taxis parked outside the building.
Employees of Cameroon Razel, where the government encourage employers and employees to open bank accounts for the payment of wages, are used to handle large sums of money during the lead up to payday.
This is not only to increase the rate of banking in the country and take advantage of opportunities offered by banks to their customers, but also, ironically, to avoid inconveniences such as armed robberies.
