The South West Customs sector in 2014 fiscal year out of the targeted over FCFA 47 billion realised about FCFA 38.5 billion, exceeding the revenue target for the year.
This information was disclosed by the Secretary General at the South West governor’s office, Clement Fon Ndikum, in Limbe on Wednesday February 19, 2015 while presiding over this year’s edition of the International Customs Day on behalf of the Governor.
He commended the remarkable performance which, he said, was due to the commitment and hard work of the customs staff and other stakeholders who played a major role through a good collaboration.
The South West Secretary General called on the customs and other stakeholders to redouble control efforts in the face of the rising insecurity and contraband goods. He underscored the fact that border management always requires coordination at all times thus the actors must ensure proper mastery of goods and persons.
Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of South West Customs Sector, Alima Nga, said with the remarkable achievements of last year, their priority now is to improve on this performance by ensuring appropriate information sharing, and putting the customs at the centre of security issues by integrating them in fighting insecurity.
Alima Nga also talked of empowering the customs department mentally, logistics, staff capacity and the use of electronic means to fight against fraud and contraband.
The International Customs day was celebrated under the theme, “Coordinated Border Management – An inclusive approach for connecting stakeholders”. It also featured a military parade of the customs officers.
