Service sector top employer in Cameroon in 2016

Throughout 2016, a total of 400,390 jobs were created in Cameroon, revealed the Minister of Employment and Professional Training, Zacharie Perevet. Compared to the same period in 2015, the job creation trend in Cameroon increased by about 18%, he specified during a press conference organised in Yaoundé.

Based on the details revealed by this Cameroonian government member, among these new jobs 275,661 were created in the manufacturing sector, against 69,303 jobs in the non-manufacturing sector.

The service sector was the top provider of jobs in the country in 2016, with 125,000 new listed jobs, representing roughly 50% of the total number of jobs created in the manufacturing sector and over 25% of overall total number of jobs created in the country last year.

Concurrently, 40,000 new jobs were listed in the primary sector, against 70,000 in the secondary sector. Still according to the Ministry of Employment, the three-year emergency plan and public investments also led to the creation of 17,488 jobs in 2016.
