Spacecom, the operator of the AMOS satellite fleet, has announced that the AMOS-5 satellite at the 17 degree East prime orbital position is now providing Cameroon with Sub-Saharan Africa’s first large-scale cellular-satellite hybrid broadband internet project.

Spacecom is cooperating with Ringo SA, a Cameroon ISP, to supply over 120 educational institutions, community centres and rural villages with stable and fast broadband Internet connections.

The project answers the growing demand for better internet service throughout the country. Spacecom’s hybrid service brings affordable broadband internet and stable service to the country’s rural and outlying regions users. The solution allows users to take advantage of satellite for downloading data while relying on cellular or other terrestrial data networks for internet upload requests.

Spacecom’s hybrid solution for broadband provision is based on satellite broadband downlink and GSM uplink which enables low cost entry setup.
