Cameroon timber constituted 66.2% of the main export products registered by the Douala Port, the main port of the country with 99% of maritime traffic in 2013.
The information is contained in a report on the State of the national port sector in the year 2013, published by the National Port Authority (APN) July 15.
1,746 million tons of timber were thus exported abroad, making this product first in the list of the main products of Cameroonian export in the past year.
Banana features in the second position, with 279.506 tons (10.6% of export traffic); followed by cocoa, with 182.829 tonnes (6.9% of export traffic); Rubber with 47.665 tonnes (1.8% of the export traffic); Cotton with 133.063 tonnes (5% of the export); and finally Coffee with 27.098 tonnes (1% of the export traffic).
Meanwhile, the total volume of exports at the port of Douala reached 2.639 million tonnes in 2013 from 2.598 million tonnes in 2012.
Same as exports, imports also experienced an uptick. From 2012 where it was 6.958 million, it reached the threshold of 7,864 million tonnes in 2013, an increase of 906 tonnes, 13% in relative value.
10 most popular products in the import sector, includes: cement, 1.26 million tonnes (16% of the import traffic); Hydrocarbons, 1.19 million tonnes (15.1%); Rice, 758.872 tonnes (9.6%); The clinker, 655.062 tonnes (8.3%); hardware, 558.041 tonnes (7.1%); Wheat in bulk, 543.012 tonnes (6.9%); frozen Fish, 211.928 tonnes (2.7%); Industrial chemicals, 203.316 tonnes (2.6%); Other food products, 190.316 tonnes (2.4%); Vehicles and machines, 167.580 tonnes (2.1% import traffic).
