Traders stabilize prices towards festive season

This was the conclusion made at the traditional conciliation meeting between economic operators and the Mincommerce held Wednesday in Yaounde.

They noted that from one sector to another, they all face a common problem: the congestion at the port of Douala.

But as the phenomenon dates, economic operators have made arrangements so that there is no shortage nor inflation of prices on the market during the end of year festivities. Thus, during the traditional consultation held on Wednesday by the Minister of Commerce (Mincommerce) in Yaoundé, they all ensured that they have stocks sufficient to cope with demand during this period.

The Minister Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana stated that, he has had a discussion with his colleague in charge of herding, who reassured them of the availability of chicken for the upcoming celebration. 4 million chicken will be placed on the market as early as December 21. Pork and beef will be available again.

The Director-general of the Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD) explained that various actions are underway to decongest the port. In this regard, Emmanuel Etoundi Oyono advised operators to clear their cargoes on time, so that there is a good schedule for unloading goods.

He also advised importers to build their storage spaces to facilitate operations.

Lastly, Mincommerce took the resolution to implement a monitoring and alert committee which will ensure the relationship between PAD and Mincommerce economic operators, so that all problems are handled without affecting consumers.
