UBA Cameroon hires Nigerian banker as new CEO

Nigeria's United Bank of Africa (UBA) banking group, has appointed Nigerian Udom Isong the position of CEO of the Cameroon subsidiary, replacing Georges Wega, according to the Daily Economy.

The Nigerian banker served as DGA of UBA Congo Brazzaville until this transfer to Cameroon and therefore knows very well the subsidiary he has now been appointed to lead.

The former CEO of UBA Cameroon, Georges Wega, was recruited toward the end of June 2014 by SG Cameroon, at the same time the Cameroon subsidiary of the French banking group faced a rebellion by employees who demanded, among other requirements, the dismissal of DG French, Jean Philippe Guillaume, accused of violating workers' rights.

Although some credible sources announce Georges Wega at the post of DGA of the Societe Generale Cameroon, while waiting for the relevant procedures with the gendarme of the banking sector in the CEMAC zone, Jean Philippe Guillaume states that the former CEO was simply recruited as "senior".
