Power supply quality and good management, a combination, according to Dr. Mefedja, expert in animal husbandry, guarantee a successful pig raring.

The lack of production techniques, processing and recovery of pig meat by holders of program continue to impede the development of the swine industry, resulting in a gap of more than 40%. In order to remedy these defects, the Agropole programme coordination unit has initiated a building capacity workshop for members of the free production and marketing of pork in Yaounde, Bafoussam and Kribi.

Thirty producers within these cities responded present at the work shop which open Tuesday in Yaoundé, under the chairmanship of the regional delegate inf the Ministry of livestock, fisheries and animal Industries (Minepia) for the Centre, Gaston Méyébé.

Indeed, the national demand of pork meat is estimated at 47 000 tonnes per year. To satisfy it, Cameroon imports 17 000 t, creating a loss of 42 billion F. To reduce imports, an economic programme of land use for the promotion of enterprises of medium and large meanings in the rural sector in Cameroon (free program) was designed by the Government.

Three agropoles were therefore created, namely: the production and marketing of pork in Kribi, agropole loaded to get the production of 620 to 920 pigs per year, the production and marketing of Bafoussam pork, loaded agropole pass current production from 3100 to 7,300 pigs per year and that in Yaoundé, which was designed to increase the production of 5 000 to 25 600 pigs per year.
