The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), grouping of the most important entities of the global chocolate industry, and the interprofessional Council of cocoa and coffee (CICC) in Cameroon, signed 11 December 2014 in Yaounde, a financing agreement for a total of $ 125 million, or about 62.5 million Cfa francs.
This money will be used to train 50 young cocoa producers over a period of 3 years. The program, New Generation, was put in place two years ago by the umbrella organisation of cocoa and coffee in Cameroon to rejuvenate the strength of output in the cocoa sector. "It is for us the best lever to ensure sustainability in the cocoa sector", Hope Sona Ebai, responsible to the WCF noted.
As it begins its third year of implementation, the New Generation, according to the assessment outlined by the CICC during the 3rd international festival of cocoa, December 11, mentor to date 362 young cocoa producers, who have already created 566 hectares of plantation.
