The World Bank recently granted a funding of 50 billion CFA in favour of Cameroon through the project for the investment and development of agricultural markets (PIDMA) which will have to be developed by the Government and the international financial institution.
Under the terms of this agreement, it is clear that 11 billion CFA francs will be invested by 2015 to boost production and support the processing and marketing of maize, cassava and sorghum. The programme should benefit 120,000 small farmers organized in cooperatives which may increase significantly, their productions.
The goal is to achieve at the end of this five-year program a production of 200,000 tonnes of maize per year, 1400 tons of cassava per year and 30,000 tons of sorghum annually to meet the demand. Demand is at the moment very below the offer, covering on average half of the demand for the three cultures.
