Ecobank Robbery Second Accused Refutes Allegations

Ticky Mbappe claimed that he was out of town for fishing on the night of the robbery.

After two interrupted sessions of the case pitting the State against some civilians and military officials accused of armed robbery at Ecobank Bonaberi, hearings continued last Tuesday September 10. Ticky Mbappe, the second accused out of 13, a close friend and secretary to Aristide Ndoumbe refuted all allegations levied on him.

Under oath, Ticky Mbappe told that the court that he used to assist Aristide Ndoumbe in writing business letters in the French Language, whenever he had to deal with a French speaking client. He denied entertaining any other, talk less of dangerous activities of any kind. He added that during the fateful night, he went fishing at sea with some friends.

However, he was surprised to discover that on April 20, 2011, Commandant Noah arrested him accusing him of taking part in the Bonaberi armed robbery incident. He equally complained of having undergone torture from the gendarme officer, in order to obtain information linking him to the crime, which he refuted till date. The case was adjourned to September 24 for the continuation of debates.

It would be recalled that the auditioning was suspended due to Senior Barrister Ashu's requests for the foreign numbers and a picture featuring in the official report retained as exhibit bv the court to be identified by Interpol. This time around, he produced a picture of a boat alongside a receipt of FCFA two million, explaining that the foreign call his client, Aristide Ndoumbe received the day after the incident was from a buyer based in Nigeria. Thus, the picture shows the boat and the cash deposit the client did in advance.
