Tasha heads to court over rumours to kill Nso fon

Former Kumbo Strikers president who also founded the defunct Amity Bank, Tasha Lewoh Lawrence has dragged some six rumour-peddlers to the Bui high court sitting in Kumbo for defamation.

The six: Langwa Lawrence, Shey Isaac Wirba, Lawong Joseph Tume, Shey Sah Henry, Shey Wirba Nyang George and Monyuyta Pius are being charged with spreading false information against the plaintiff.

According to Tasha, the accused in November 2012 in Kumbo, falsely spread information on how he was plotting to kill the fon of Nso, Sehm Mbinlo I. Tasha argued that the misleading information greatly injured his reputation. Count II of the suit charges the accused with threatening to set the plaintiff’s car ablaze.

The case which had its initial hearing on February 23, 2014 saw all the accused pleading not guilty for both charges of defamation and conditional threats. Tasha Loweh Lawrence is claiming jointly from the accused, a sum of 500 million FCFA.

The defamation case is being heard by the president of the Bui high court, Justice Forchap Ambrose. The court’s deputy state counsel, Amness Etienne is prosecutor while Lawyers Iseni Ivo and Joseph Akuwiyadze are counsels for the civil parties and Njobara Pius for the defense.

The case which has suffered several adjournments at the instance of the defense counsel, was on July 17, adjourned to August 14, 2014, with a cost of 200 000FCFA awarded to the civil party.
