CCD meeting focuses on pressing issues in Cameroon

The last extraordinary General Assembly of the Council of Cameroonians in the Diaspora (CCD) opened from October 11, 2014 at AGECA Paris XI in a serene and very friendly atmosphere.

Several dozens of members and supporters spontaneously stood up to sing the national anthem of Cameroon with gusto. It followed a brief address by President Robert Waffo Wanto.

The rank of the elements punctuating the work of AGE included: The thorny issue of the very enigmatic and undesirable sect Boko Haram, which according to the participants, constitutes a threat to be taken seriously.

Through CCD, participants expressed their concern with regard to the victims of the throes of instability, insecurity and increased poverty based on the fact that unjustifiable war is imposed on us. Solidarity was also expressed to the displaced families and children deprived of schooling.

A CCD redeployment strategy which should also, according to the participants, through a focus on communication in order to galvanize the promotion of the ideals of the CCD.

For this, they were called to take into account, social networks, campaigns of explanation with compatriots, networking with organizations of the Diaspora, of civil society and national and international organizations campaigning for human rights, freedom, justice and democracy.

In this context, a statutory Board of 15 members was formed and is chaired by Chairman Robert Waffo Wanto, and whose role will be to define the broad guidelines of the movement. A monitoring unit was also established to continuously scrutinize the news and make suggestions to the bureau for a position taken by the movement.

This monitoring unit will be placed under the authority by Daniel Yombo, the new Secretary General, who takes up his duties at the same time as his assistants, Njoya Salomon and Irviene Tan, as well as one of the vice-presidents Gervais Younkep.

The AGE asked that emphasis be placed on Exchange with Cameroonian Diaspora organisations which share the same visions as the CCD, before expressing strong concern following infighting within the CODE.

President Robert Waffo Wanto has been tasked to launch a vibrant call to Brice Nitcheu, the leader of the CODE so that he works through an open dialogue, to bring back calm and the serenity within this organization, friend and partner of CCD.
