Multinational Joint Task Force set for work

Heads of State of the Lake Chad Basin Commission organised a meeting to fine-tune the military’s strategy in the fight against Boko Haram in Abuja June 11 2015.

Heads of State present during the summit included Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria, Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger, Boni Yayi of Benin, Idriss Deby Itno of Chad and Minister of Defence, Edgar Alain Mebe Ngo’o, who represented the Cameroonian Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya.

One of the firm resolutions taken at the end of the summit was to render operational the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) by July 30, 2015.

Other resolutions include:

- The MNJTF to be based in Ndjamena-Chad will be led by a Nigerian military leader

- Deputy Commander position to be held by Chadian

- Chief of Staff position to be held by Cameroonian

The Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) created in January 2015 comprises military men from Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria. The force was created to combat the Boko Haram insurgency wrecking and causing fear at the Lake Chad Basin.
