Last week on the social media platform Instagram, Cameroon's modern day Princess aka Brenda Biya took to her account to share her views on shadeism.

Similar to racism, shadeism (a legacy of slavery) is a form of discrimination based on skin colour that identifies groups and individuals on the basis of their degree of pigmentation. It is typically an intraracial issue based on the degree of skin tone.

Brenda Biya stated it was a big issue for her and a big issue in Cameroon and Africa in general.

"You don't have to be MIXED to be pretty, and you certainly don't have to be: LIGHT SKINNED. Our hair is beautiful and our skin is rich. Black is beautiful in all shades, and it is time for us to fully embrace ourselves," she commented.
