French sponsored C2D Culture programme has been launched in Cameroon to promote 'Cinema for All project', handled by Mobile Digital Cinema team.
The programme was launched last January 30 during a press conference in Yaoundé granted by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Ama Tutu Muna, French Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Christine Robichon and the promoter of Mobile Digital Cinema Project, Stéphanie Dongmo.
During the exchange with the press, it was revealed that some 100 free cinematographic projections will be organized in the open air in the Centre, Littoral, South West and Adamawa Regions from January to July 2015.
The press conference was immediately followed by the official launching ceremony of the programme the same day at the esplanade of Yaoundé Omnisport Stadium chaired by Minister Ama Tutu Muna in the presence of the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona who doubles as Board Chair of Ecrans Noirs Film Festival.
In a chat with The SUN, the promoter of Mobile Digital Cinema, Stéphanie Dongmo explained that, “Our objective is for people from all walks of life and even in rural milieus to have access to diverse cinematographic culture through image and new technologies, given that cinema is the first promoter of cultural diversity.
It contributes to the economy of Cameroon cinema industry and participates in critical education of images, encourages building up of a potential cinema public and the promotion of cinematographic works in Cameroon.
Open-air film projections enable us to reach out to a good number of people for them to react on the challenges of culture and the cinema industry. Those to directly benefit from this project are the population, cinema professionals in Cameroon and Africa at large.”
According to organizers, the free open air film projections will be organized in four stages; Stage I: Centre: 31 January – 27 February, Stage II: Littoral: 13 March – 10 April, Stage III: Adamawa : 20 April – 20 May and Stage IV : South West : 30 May – 2 July.
Created in 2012, Mobile Digital Cinema is member of the International Association of Mobile Cinema.
