Home-Based Musicians to be Encouraged

In readiness for the upcoming International Day of Music, the Regional Littoral Delegate for Art and Culture, Oumarou Mana Madi has announced that home-based musicians will have the opportunity to show their talent to the public. He was speaking during a brief meeting with pressmen and organizers recently.

The International Day of Music is celebrated on June 21. This year's edition will focus on pop music. Mana Madi said four stages will be mounted at Cité SIC at Marion Stade, Texaco Village, 4 Etages Bonaberi and Akwa in Douala. These locations are densely populated with large crowds expected to make the day a success, he said.

He added that musicians are already registering to participate, both home-based and those who have made their names in the music world. According to the Delegate, the day is important because it creates the avenue for people to come together and appreciate the musical products from the country.

He announced that concerts will go on in all four venues concurrently but if any musician wants to move from one stage to another, they will be free to do so. He assured that measures have been put in place to ensure security.

A debate will be organised today June 19 at the French Cultural Centre, Douala on music. It will be open to the public.
