Asta Ngo Um, the matriarch of Assiko in Cameroon gave us the privilege to interview her on the Dede Bass tour and her upcoming album.
Q: How is the ‘Assiko’ on the Paris market?
A: Assiko is doing well here in the diaspora in France and the United States. This is the culture that is taking Cameroonians forward.
Q: You are scheduled for ‘Dede Bass Tour’. Can you confirm your participation?
A: Of course I will participate in this tour ‘Dede Bass’ who I respect and consider a great artiste. This is someone who has love for what he does and takes it very seriously. The support in this project for me is still a pleasure.
Q: What should the public who will attend this event expect?
A: I book a show worthy for a queen and matriarch with energetic dancers. Be assured of historical and true songs. I need not say no more. Come there and witness for yourself.
Q: What is the Asta album about?
A: The big surprise is the official release of an original cd-dvd compilation of my collection vol 1, which will cost only 1500 Fcfa and will be signed by me in the coming days. I therefore call on people to come and support their artistes and receive the joyous blessings of a good year.
Q: How is your association, Village Asta doing?
A: The association is doing well and new projects to support development in rural areas are ongoing. We are moving forward, with the blessing of God and the best is yet to come.
Q: What look do you have on the Cameroonian music today?
A: Cameroonian music begins to breathe again because young people have great talent and I urge them to get closer to traditional music to affirm their cultural identity and I think that the return of Former Cameroonian artiste who is in time will boost them.
