National Ballet perform in Cameroon after 20-day course

In the presence of the Minister of Arts and Culture Ama Tutu Muna and her colleagues, the national ballet, which was on probation since June 10, presented their work Monday, June 30, in the Cameroonian cultural Centre.

Since June 10, the national ballet has taken a course to upgrade their performance.

For a week, they received the teachings of the Cameroonian choreographer living in France Merlin Nyakam who is a former member of this prestigious group. It was followed by the American Robert Garland Lloyd choreographer.

This former member of the famous Harlem Dance Theater of New York and a Philadelphia native who now lives in Cameroon to exchange stage performance and to upgrade the ballet which is preparing two events.

This internship is designed to hoist the national ballet at the level of the greatest on the international scene. It is an exchange between the choreography folk and traditional Cameroonian and those of classical and modern dance. A common choreography will be concocted between the national ballet and the Harlem Dance Theater in New York, reflecting a brewing between our two cultures.

It is this work which was returned to Ama Tutu Muna. It is this 20 day course which was introduced for the privileged (collaborators of the MINAC, journalists...), at 2 p.m. at Cameroon Cultural Centre, the show started after an hour delay. During 1 h 30, the 10 dancers of the national troop accompanied by 5 musicians revisited Cameroon in song and dance.

The dances of the 10 regions have been executed to perfection; the traditional outfits were not outdone. A choreography, that highlights our culture.
