The 15th edition of the International Festival of Caricature and humor of Yaoundé (FESCARHY) was launched this Wednesday, July 02, 2014.
FESCARHY 2014, and will run from 02 to 06 July in Le Bois Saint Anastasie.
It was during a ceremony chaired by the Secretary General of Ministry of Arts and Culture that the 15th edition of the International Festival of Caricature and humor of Yaoundé was officially launched (FESCARHY).
After the arrival and installation of the guests, the ceremony itself began with the entrance of the flags of all the countries that participated in the festival, followed by the word of welcome from the President of the festival (Léontine Babeni). Artist and poet, Issa Nyaphaga rewarded us with a good show of painting.
Malyk, who was initially there from the beginning, spoke of the genesis of the project. "The project was born in my study room" he said. The speech from the Secretary General of the Ministry of Arts and Culture was followed by the sharing of the birthday cake and the visit to various stands closed the ceremony.
"A life of pencil, a life of humor" is the theme this year. Launched on 22 March 1999, the FESCARHY blows this year on its 15th birthday.
The talents of more than 25 countries (Cameroon, France, Canada, Gabon, Belgium, Ghana, Tunisia, Senegal, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Congo, CAR, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Nigeria, Mali, United States, Mauritius, Gambia, Benin, Switzerland, Rwanda...) and close to 500 artists participated in this festival.
The festival pays tribute this year to two luminaries of humor and Caricature NAMELY: Mystero and EZZAT.
Me Mystero WITH real name Jean Jacques Onana Awana was born February 19, 1963, in Yaoundé.
Married and a father of 07, he is a Professor of high schools, regional pedagogical inspector responsible for Arts in the centre. Since 2006, he is a humorous columnist at the CRTV radio through the Sunday lunchtime show.
Ezzat El Dine was born February 24, 1964 in Yaoundé; he is quickly attracted to drawing. His cartoonist talents began in 1992 where alongside Damien Glez in the "Journal of Thursday", he published his first cartoons.
It was Damien Glez that who instilled in him this taste for distorted portraits, humorous exaggerated so-called caricature.
He draws for: L’œil du Sahel, Ici les gens du Cameroun, le quotidien Mutations and others.
