The University of Douala has emerged the overall winner of the 5th edition of the University Festival of Arts and Culture organised at the Yaounde II University Soa Campus, from Tuesday, November 24 to Thursday, November 26, 2015.
They received a gold medal for scoring a total of nine points in the five fields designed for the competition.
The University of Yaounde one followed with a silver medal and the University of Ngaoundere took the bronze medal.
Even though other Universities did not feature among the first three overall prizes, they were noted for their outstanding performance in the specific contests. the University of Buea, for instance, was the overall winner in the choral competition. They received a gold medal for that.
While handing the awards to laureates, the Minister of Higher Education Professor Jaques Fame Ndongo who presided the closing ceremony, called on participants to keep up with such rare talents which to him is worth a countless investment for generations to come.
The three-day event brought together over 800 participants from the eight State Universities, who all contested in Drawing, Painting, Photography, Singing and Dancing.
The 6th Edition of the festival which is always organised once after two years has been scheduled for 2017 in Bamenda.
