It is said that, for someone to progress, he/she must think of the past, the present and then plan for the future. This sounds sensible for persons and nations, Cameroon not excluded.
Cameroonians, thinking as a nation, will remember that we were divided by two colonial masters; the French and the English. It is truism that it was West Cameroonians who willingly decided to join East Cameroonians as against joining Nigeria. At that time, there was terrorism and random killing in East Cameroon.
We of the West still thought and felt that blood is thicker than water. Even with different cultural backgrounds, there was a gentleman agreement that we were two brothers going into unity on equal terms, West Cameroon and East Cameroon Governments.
When we unified, the terrorism in East Cameroon STOPPED!
When the West Cameroon Government was dissolved, and documents carried from Buea to Yaounde, bad faith set in. Some of our brothers in East Cameroon came in with devilish tricks and ‘over-sabi’.
The political will changed drastically to the detriment of Anglophones. It was feared that West Cameroon will secede. Only Francophones have governed West Cameroon since unification, till date. Then major projects have gone to East Cameroon.
The Kumba-Mamfe road and the Ring Road in Bamenda have taken the slowest snail speed. It was considered wiser to first build a seaport in Kribi before Victoria.
All key and juicy Ministries have been held by East Cameroonians. There are Ministers in Yaounde who have power and money more than the Anglophone Prime Minister.
There are two main political parties in the country today; the CPDM led by His Excellency Paul Biya and the SDF led by His Excellency Ni John Fru Ndi. It is a fact known in Cameroon and internationally that, if you take away the Government machinery; Paul Biya is not an equal to Ni John Fru Ndi politically. The fact that Mr. Fru Ndi defeated Mr. Paul Biya in a Presidential election is well known even to the younger generation in Cameroon.
We have two law-making bodies in our country today both dominated by the CPDM; the higher one being the Senate. Recently, the Senators, Minister and those that matter in the Centre Region, at a New Year wishes ceremony, started calling on Paul Biya to take another term of office as President of the Republic of Cameroon.
Other sections of the CPDM party are joining in singing this famous song. Very soon it will become “The people’s Call”
On the other hand, the newspapers are already carrying headlines that Paul Biya will “create” the post of “Vice President” for Anglophones.
If this happens, it will be a big disgrace for Anglophones – be they CPDM or SDF.
Whether you are a Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist or Muslim, you ought to feel that, after 50 years of unification (which Anglophones spearheaded and it has proved so successful) NO ANGLOPHONE IS QUALIFIED TO BE HEAD OF STATE? What do we really lack? Is it natural resources, manpower, political leadership, education or what have you?
In an honest and just set-up, a democratically elected Southern Cameroonian should take over Government in a Federal Republic of Cameroon and govern as for many years as Biya has done, then, we can think of the Owona Rotatory System.
Is the CPDM not provoking Anglophones, and even God?
