Peer educators took time yesterday to sensitise the population on curbing HIV.

Barely a week after the official launching of the AIDS-Free Holidays programme, peer educators deployed around the Nation's capital say sensitising the population on the dangers of HIV is yielding fruits as many people are interested in knowing their HIV status and how to prevent the disease.

Young people spearheading the HIV caravan made a stop yesterday, August 4, 2016 at the Yaounde Mfoundi Market where they intensified the sensitisation campaign on the deadly HIV virus and the diseases it causes, AIDS.

Visibly present at the junction between Mfoundi Market and Camair-Co agency, these peer educators were out to sensitise people on the HIV pandemic which is ravaging the population particularly the youths.

To roll back HIV/AIDS prevalence in the country, the head of the team, Yannick Kenne said they are out to comb all the nooks and crannies in Yaounde.

After the populated Mokolo Market in Yaounde as well as the Central Post Office area, Yannick Kenne noted that they are overwhelmed with the positive reaction the caravan received from the population as many people do not only show interest on how to prevent the disease but the way forward if infected.

Through educational chats with traders and passers-by around the Mfoundi Market, the peer educators edified the population on ways to prevent HIV such as abstinence, fidelity and the use of condoms, depending on the individual.

The campaign is also an opportunity for many people to voluntarily do the HIV test.
