Bangem has no Doctor

For weeks or even months, the Bangem General Hospital has been without a resident medical doctor.

This situation started when the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Paul Enongene, left Bangem for an official specialisation study-leave to Ukraine. For close to six months, Dr. Lucas Bobga was the lone medical officer at the Bangem General Hospital. He too was recently transferred to the Bakassi area.

According to reports, the two medical doctors who left the Bangem General Hospital for Ukraine and Bakassi, only one has been replaced by the Ministry of Public Health through the Southwest Regional Delegation of Public Health.

However, the newly transferred doctor is still to resume duty. Meanwhile, the death toll continues to rise as the hospital remains without a doctor. The population is adversely affected by the absence of a doctor, as serious cases of ill health cannot easily be transported to the Nyassoso Presbyterian Hospital near Tombel or Nkongsamba, due to the deplorable condition of the roads.
