The Minister of Public Health presided a meeting to this effect on Thursday in Yaounde.
The Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda has stressed the need to work with partners in the collection, treatment and transportation of blood in the process of blood transfusion.
He was speaking in Yaounde, yesterday September 29 as he presided over a meeting with partners and NGOs involved in blood transfusion in the country. During the meeting, André Mama Fouda said blood transfusion is a major preoccupation for the government especially as several witnesses are encounter in the process. That is limited infrastructure and number of blood donors whom are mostly occasional (family members).
Given the huge population of the country, Minister André Mama Fouda said there is need to have several blood donors to meet up the demand of blood transfusion. He lamented the fact that there are limited and non-organised infrastructures to ensure blood transfusion.
Another witness in blood transfusion is the worrying HIV prevalence rate and other transmissible diseases such as hepatitis A, B, C and D which requires stringent security measures during blood transfusion.
