Cameroon reports nine wild polio cases

Health authorities in Cameroon have decided to intensify immunization against polio after the Ministry of Public Health reported nine cases of the virus in the country.

To completely eradicate polio, one of whose manifestations is child infirmity, the Cameroonian authorities, with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will conduct an immunization exercise for zero to five-year-olds between February 27 and March 3, 2015.

The goal is to vaccinate 100 percent of children of this age group given that the other vaccination exercise hardly reached a 95 percent rate.

In total, there are nearly three million children to be vaccinated, with a view to completely eradicating the disease that had almost disappeared from Africa.
