The regions of the far North, North and Adamawa, currently faces a cholera epidemic since April 2014. The latest official figures, reported 74 deaths on 1598 reported cases.
The presence of refugees and the threat of Boko Haram in these regions, coupled with the rainy season and the lack of drinking water, have been mentioned as major causes of the outbreak.
The progression of the epidemic worries health authorities of Cameroon, who are trying to control, and increase awareness and provide means of prevention but according to the Director of the fight against cholera in the Cameroonian Ministry of health initiatives as at now remains insufficient.
