The campaign scheduled to run till 19th September 2016 follows a recent announcement from the World Health Organisation of a third case of polio in neighbouring Nigeria.
The five regions concerned with the campaign include: the Far North, North, Adamawa, West and North West Regions.
This campaign comes in at a time when Cameroon has made strides in its fight against polio with the introduction of an injectable vaccine in July 2015 to gradually replace the oral one.
It is worth recalling that in 2015, Cameroon was declared a non-exporter of the wild polio virus hence this campaign is necessary to maintain the status of an "affected" country and not an "exporter" country.
