Health Minister gives Sangmelima hosp subcontractors ultimatum

A period of two weeks has been given to some subcontractors by the Minister André Mama Fouda during his working visit on Thursday. This period has been given to them to complete the final adjustments at the Sangmélima reference hospital.

The Minister of health (MOH), André Mama Fouda, was visibly furious facing the delays observed in the achievements of the imaging block and operative, as well as some services of the hospital during a working visit in the said hospital.

The MOH found that facilities such as devices to scan, radiology, ultrasound as well as air conditioning and medical gases facilities, were not installed in these blocks. This limits the offer of some services such as Caesarean deliveries and some examinations.

This hospital has been functional since January 1 and has already received more than 800 patients.

André Mama Fouda noted with satisfaction that several compartments of the hospital are already in service; the mortuary, maternity, intensive care, and laboratories. But there are delays in some departments where additional facilities have not been installed.

On the other hand, the delay is due, according to the MOH, to complementary equipment that are still under customs control. "It's the same claimant who is in charge of two blocks and it regulates customs formalities for the month. It is their duty to properly organize themselves so that the two blocks are provided with the necessary equipment," he said.

And reassuring: "I say to the people that the commissioning of a hospital is very laborious. It is evolving in the right direction. The observed problems are organizational and financial.

If the promises made by the claimants are met within 15 days, we will have a better facilities in all departments of the hospital. André Mama Fouda promised to come back in two weeks to ensure effective blocks such as the imaging and surgical operation among other things are properly installed.
