Three million people malnourished in Cameroon

The northern region is the most affected, according to Minepia which gave a Wednesday press briefing in Yaounde.

"our country has reached the target of the objective of the MDGs No. 1 (eliminate extreme poverty and hunger) before the end of 2015." What earned them a degree of excellence awarded by the Director-general of the United Nations food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in June 2013". A statement by Dr. Taïga, Minister of livestock, fisheries and animal Industries (Minepia), facing the press Wednesday in Yaounde.

Except that, despite national performance, stated by the Minister, "15.7% of the Cameroonian population, or about 3 million people, are still exposed to malnutrition". The output of Minepia was as a prelude to the 34th world food day (JMA), celebrated yesterday, October 16, 2014.

The celebration of world food day gave an opportunity to assess the progress made in the fight against these evils and to define new actions to initiate to find appropriate solutions.

Indeed, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2014 as "International year of the family farming" (AIAF). It is natural that this 34th edition of World Food Day theme is: "family farming: feeding the world, preserve the planet.

In Cameroon, according to Dr. Taïga, improving productivity and competitiveness of the family farms is at the heart of the concerns of the Government. "With the support of bilateral and multilateral partners, the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development (Minader) and Minepia are implementing several projects focused on technical capacity-building, managerial and organizational family farmers, in addition to support for the development of the cooperatives'.
