This is thanks to gifts worth FCFA 800, 000 handed to the Minister of Public Health by the People's Republic of China.
After 10 years of its inauguration, the medical platform of the Yaounde-Gynaeco-Obstretric and Paediatric Hospital (YGOPH) had worn-out and needed to be renovated. Because of the poor state of some medical equipment, certain diagnosis could not be done in the hospital. Patients had to go elsewhere to carry out such medical examination at affluent cost.
Today, this is all history. Last Friday, July 11, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Wo Ruidi handed medical equipment and four ambulances to the Minister of Public Health, André Mama Fouda from his government. The ceremony took place at the premises of the Yaounde-Gynaeco-Obstretric and Paediatric Hospital, which is one of the jewels of the Sino-Cameroon Cooperation.
The current gifts from the People's Republic of China came to renew the medical platform of YGOPH particularly with its radiology and scanning services. The General Manager of the Hospital, Professor Fru Angwafor said that the hospital received one Computed Axial Tomography (CAT) which is a radiologic imaging modality that uses computer processing to generate an image, two digital radiography machines (a form of X-ray imaging where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film), one conventional radiography machine, two ultra sound machines, 20 incubators and 10 ultra violet photometric machines.
He explained that the hospital will improve on care delivery at an affordable rate to CT scan while adding that the ultra sound unit will permit the hospital to carry out all kinds of echography at reduced cost. Vivid is the fact that a woman was seen carrying out an ultra sound scan (echography) at FCFA 6,500 meanwhile in other health facilities, this examination is done between FCFA 7,500 to 15,000.
Good to note that the incubators with ultra violet photometric machines will be used to treat children who are born with yellow fever. With instructions from the Board of Directors of the hospital, the General Manager said the hospital will keep prices as low as possible. "I imagine that this will help the entire community (those that have and those that do not have)", Pr Angwafor underlined.
While receiving the gifts, the Minister of Public Health thanked the People's Republic of China for helping YGOPH to get its entire technical medical dimension renewed which will permit the hospital better diagnose patients. Ambassador Wo Ruidi said the gifts are coming after a promise made last year, by the Chinese Minister of Health when he visited Cameroon and realised that most of the equipment in the hospital were obsolete.
While calling on the beneficiaries to ensure the maintenance of the equipment, Wo Ruidi stressed that the gifts are to improve the conditions of medical care given to Cameroonians. Amongst the four medical ambulances, two go to the Yaounde-Gynaeco-Obstretric and Paediatric Hospital, one for the Mbalmayo District Hospital and the other for the Guider District Hospital.
