Over three thousand fans and supporters of PWD Bamenda left the Bamenda Municipal Stadium, on Wednesday, resigned to bitterness and disappointment.
This was after Dynamic of Buea frustrated the efforts of the expensively assembled and high riding PWD of Bamenda that had gained promotion into the national elite two in grand style just a few months back.
Coach Essomba Rene fielded a highly experienced team, with only captain Matike Ekouma Stephen graduating from the old PWD, the rest were players with brought in from elite one and two sides.
The home side started on a high note, mounting intense pressure on the visitors with Tabot Etaka and Moanga Sammy Hugo particularly guilty in front of goal. Bentui Ndip, coach of Dynamic was forced to reshuffle his pack at the 28 minute when Philip Uku was taken off following a nasty collision with Tabot. Emmanuel Njanwei was brought in but did little to stem the flow of the game.
Moanga was handed another clear cut chance at the 41 minute but his header just 2 metres out was so weak to beat the keeper. Dynamic of Buea was able to contain PWD in the first segment of the game, hardly venturing out of their half. But this was soon to change.
Dynamic resumed the second half more determined. They dictated the tempo of the match, completely neutralizing Wonta Kinyuy and Yemedji Onana in midfield. Moustapha Abdouraman was brought in at the 61 minute in a move that almost vindicated coach Ndip of Dynamic.
The attacker formed a potent partnership with Clovis Sone Ngome who both came close to breaking the dead lock on three occasions each. It took some desperate defending and good goal keeping by PWD to remain in contention for a point.
But the last opportunities were reserved for the Abakwa Boys who come close to grapping all three points but for some wasteful finishing.
Despite coming into the game riding on high hopes, 11 years after they descended from the top flight, the team’s president Abunde Pascal had cautioned fans before the game, asking them to exercise caution if the results don’t come early on. PWD had signed in many experienced players including the coach Essomba Rene, formerly with Feutcheu FC of Bandjoun.
