MTN Elite One - New Stars Humiliates Canon

They walloped Kpa-Kum 3-1 in their own backyard in Yaounde on July 15.

Visiting New Stars of Douala inflicted a humiliating 3-1 defeat on Canon in their own very backyard in Yaounde. After a 1-5 defeat in the away leg, most football pundits expected Canon of Yaounde to take their revenge on New Stars of Douala in the return leg yesterday in a match counting for the 15th day of play of the ongoing MTN Elite One championship. However, it was New Stars who proved more enterprising scoring three goals in less than ten minutes to finally carry the day on a 3-1 score.

Both teams seemed of equal strength from the beginning of the encounter with each side closing up spaces so as not to allow the opponent elaborate their game plan. The break through however came at the 25th minute of play when Ebah Tobie Julien, connected in a well organised offensive from New Stars, to make it one for New Stars and zero for Canon. Ebah was again at the start and finish of another attack two minutes later, beating the Canon goalkeeper with a soft touch of the ball. Ten minutes after the second, Ebah who turned out to be the man of the Match was brought down within the 18 metre-box to earn a penalty that was transformed by the highest goal scorer of the Elite One championship, Thierry Makon Nloga.

Upon resumption of play for the second half, Canon tried to step up the game and benefitted from a penalty at the 74th minute that was transformed by Captain Pierre Wome Nlend, who executed every stop ball. The match was attended by Jean II Makoun, Seidou and the former Gabonese Minister of sports and president of US Bitam.
