University of Buea clinches spot in Cameroon Cup

Newly promoted Southwest Regional Division Two team, University of Buea football club, clinched a spot in the Cameroon Cup Round of 32 after a win over Best Stars of Limbe.

The University of Buea football club, UBFC, that was defeated at the 8th finals of the Southwest Cup of Cameroon came back as best losers. At the quarter-final stage, their opponents, Mbonge FC, did not show up, and UBFC won the match and at the semi-final level, they humiliated Victoria United, AKA OPOPO, 3-0 before beating Best Stars of Limbe 5-4 after post-match penalty. They will face National Polytechnic of Bamenda, a League Two side in all Anglophone’s derby.

Also, another Southwest Regional Division Two into the round of 32 is Little Foot FC of Mutengene, who beat Batcho Ntai FC 2-1 to book their place into the round of 32. They will take on Ngoketoundja FC of Ndop.

According to the draws, the league 1&2 teams of the Professional League will mostly meet teams engaged in the Regional League. Defending champions Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda, YOSA will meet the East Regional League champion who is yet to be known. There will also be the West Region derby pitting Panther of Nde against League Two side Aigle of Menoua.

Meanwhile, Njalla Quan takes on Volcan of Noun, Dynamic of Buea against FC Yaounde II, Tiko united against Berakha Maxwell of Ebolowa.

It should be noted that the 32 finals will take place on a neutral ground.

Only students of the University of Buea are playing in the school’s football club as, in the past three years, there have been runners up in the National University Games, 2012 and 2014.
