The regime is preparing for "electoral blows" - SDF

The largest opposition political party gave a press conference in Yaounde to express views following the recent adoption of the law on the Suppression of terrorist acts.

The chairman of the Social democratic front (SDF), Ni John Fru Ndi, recently in the office of his party in Yaounde gave his point of view after the recent adoption by Parliament of the law on the Suppression of terrorist acts.

The Act provides death penalty for people who would be convinced to prepare or to be authors of terrorist acts by the military court. "It is a lie to make us believe that the objective of this draconian law is actually to eradicate terrorism. We see it as a way to pave the way for other electoral blows and to avoid what happened recently in Burkina Faso", said the chairman, cited by the newspaper Mutations on Friday.

President of the first opposition party represented in the National Assembly of Cameroon (18 members on the 180) however assured that he does not require people to take to the streets. "I don't want to call people to the streets. But if they do, I would be at their side," he said.

The Union of the peoples of Cameroon (UPC), opposition party also represented in the National Assembly, through the voice of the Honourable Bapooh Lipót, indicated that their opinions were not taken into account because of its low standing (3 MPs on 180).
