UPC Steering Committee restructured

The first meeting of its kind has been organised by the party, Union of the peoples of Cameroon (UPC) since the establishment of the definitive structures that took place 6 and 7 June in Yaoundé.

Under the chairmanship of Victor Onana, and in the presence of Secretary general Basile Louka, more than 200 members of the bureau of the Steering Committee of the party found themselves Friday at the Centre Jean XXIII of Mvolyé in Yaoundé.

The agenda of work contained, the implementation of the resolutions of the Congress concerning inter alia "the reorganization of the party at the base, the consolidation of its unit at the base, the re-conquest of its place on the political scene and the position of the UPC on the situation prevailing in the far - northern Cameroon", as indicated by its president Victor Onana.

In total, six resolutions inter alia were carried on the constitution of the Bureau of the Steering Committee, the party organization, the training and education of the masses, communication and logistics and the cost and the validity of the membership card and the last on disputes.

Thus, the second resolution on the organisation of the UPC has worked on a redesign of the basic structures of the party, in a united spirit, in accordance with the statutes of 1952 and on the basis of a section by borough.

Moreover, this body must complete to a maximum of 300 members, its workforce, "taking into account requests of delegations present at the Congress and the intensification of the movement needs.

There will now be a general Council of the Union of the people of Cameroon and the standing committees of the Steering Committee. On the situation in the far North, officials of the Union of the people of Cameroon have condemned "with the last energy", attacks by the Islamist sect Boko Haram.

UPC militants also expressed their sympathy to the latest victims of the atrocities of this sect in the locality of Kolofata and hailed the, "courage, valour and bravery of the defence forces."
