UPC Unity: Steering committee reaches out to dissidents

The Steering Committee of the ‘Union des populations du Cameroun,’ UPC, party is doing everything to bring back dissenting or disgruntled members into the fold.

Meeting in Yaounde on Saturday, November 8, 2014, the committee in charge of discipline condemned the self-marginalisation of certain elected officials and appealed to every party member to come back to reason as part of the party’s open-door policy. It insisted that there was urgent need to open up the party to every member through its inclusive policy.

It was the second time the UPC Steering Committee was meeting since the Yaounde congress of last June. The meeting also listened to updates on what the executive has done since the said congress such as the organisation of the ‘Week of Martyrs’ and the putting in place of local committees to reorganise party grassroots structures, the National Secretary for Propaganda and Communication, Charly Gabriel Mbock, explained. The party General Secretariat briefed the meeting on the recent trip to France.

A committee was set up to study reports on party communication, finances and discipline, among others. This enabled participants to reposition the party for the forthcoming year by asking for a speed up in putting in place of rejuvenated grassroots structures.

Also concerning 2015, the Steering Committee discussed the organisation of the April 10 party anniversary and the National Day march past on May 20. Party members were also urged to pay their dues.
