2015 Back-to-school: Traffic congestion returns

Traffic Traffic

The 2015/2016 academic year has kicked off nationwide this Monday, 7th September 2015 bringing along the usual traffic congestion.

The honking from vehicles, pupils and students queued up along pavements and the exchange of morning greetings were characteristic of day one of school resumption.

In Yaounde, vehicles and pedestrians alike could be seen fighting for space to move as students and pupils stood at strategic junctions hoping to board a taxi and be on time to school.

Even the narrow roads within neighbourhoods leading to schools experienced considerable congestion as some parents decided to tackle the challenges of the morning drizzle and brave their way to school to drop their children.

With the reappearance of the traffic congestion most major towns have missed during the three month break and the sound of children playing in school courtyards, it is clear that the new academic year has started and pupils, students and teachers are in for serious work till the end of the first term in December 2015.
