An extension of Minee demolished in Yaoundé

The lack of building permits was invoked by the urban community during the destruction of the building under construction.

The building under construction by the Ministry of water and energy (Minee) was recently demolished by agents of the urban community of Yaoundé. Since then, the subject is at the centre of all conversations in this Department.

However, a manager of the UNMEE indicated under anonymity that it was a regular contract at the end of last year. He explains: "we have no recollection of a problem between us and the urban community which may lead to the demolition of the building. We have sought a permit to build in the municipality, and thus were surprised Friday around 9: 30 pm, when vigils announced to us that the urban community has begun the demolition of the building".

From our investigations, it appears that the Minee had not obtained this permit before building work started. "It is not obtained so easily. We are still in discussion with the technical direction of the urban community for this purpose", justifies our source.

This demolition is a huge loss not only for the State which must pay the contractor who completed the laying of tiles, but for this Ministerial Department. The building was, in fact, an extension of the main building of this Ministerial Department; it was to have 14 offices and parking.

The competent authority confirms that the Minee did not have a permit to build when it undertook the work, despite the warnings it received.
