Andze Andze re-elected head of United Cities

The outgoing president Emile Andze Andze was re-elected for a third term during a General Assembly Wednesday in Yaounde.

Emile was elected Wednesday at the Congress Hall in Yaoundé. The elective General Assembly, whose works were opened by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, René Emmanuel Sadi, carried out this activity after the withdrawal of the candidature of Dieudonné Zang Mba.

The Mayor of Mbalmayo, also president of the UCCC for the Centre region at the beginning of the election process, presented a list of 16 members instead of 17.

In addition, a very intense debate was raised on the legality of the statutes governing the operation of the UCCC. For some, the statute which provides that the rest "of Committee Chairmen should be elected at the same time as the Executive Board," should be legalized.

Eventually, the Mayor Zang Mba, having called for more solidarity and dialogue between the municipalities and members of the Association proceeded to withdraw his list.

At the opening of the work, Réné Emmanuel Sadi reaffirmed the commitment of the Government to continue the process of decentralization, including the transfer of resources to the municipalities to be increased by 2015.

Furthermore, he indicated that the latter's provisions are to be taken by the State so that mayors can receive a salary. In this context, the Minatd challenged the UCCC to exhibit more credibility, efficiency and capacity for action in the context of decentralization, in order to fully ensure the well-being of populations.
