Bakoko community organize thanksgiving mass for the appointment of Pr Etame

Eleven years after the death of Prof. Roger Gabriel Nlep, then Vice-Rector of the University of Douala in charge of teaching, the bakoko community of Sanaga-maritime, witnessed one of its sons, Prof. Jacques Etamé, appointed Director of the University Institute of technology (Iut) at the University of Douala by presidential decree.

Seven months later, the people decided to say ‘Thank you to God’ and the President of the Republic for the confidence placed on Pr. Etame. They decided January 24, 2015 to celebrate a mass of Thanksgiving in the native village of the Director of the IUT. A religious service celebrated by Bishop Jean-Bosco Ntep, Bishop of Edea.

The event was attended by local authorities, traditional authorities, elites, especially senior officials, including the Governor of the Littoral, Joseph Beti Assomo. Pr Dieudonne Oyono, Rector of the University of Douala noted: "our institution has turned its teachings to professionalization " and the Iut is a great testing ground."

He added that, concerning Pr Etame: "since he arrived at the head of this institution, we have developed many relationships with companies. I am very pleased with the work he has done.

"Our job is to accompany major structuring projects that Cameroon wants to realise, forming the qualified human resource, so that the country can further be better economically in accordance with the OCSG, and particularly on projects for emergency as the head of State has launched". Pr Etame stated.

He recalled that out of the four IUT in Cameroon, that in Douala is located in the area where there exist most of the projects: Douala, Limbe, Kribi.
