A male medical student in Bamenda has stabbed a married man to death after bumping into him in a girlfriend’s room. The incident happened Monday morning.
Reports say the deceased married man had left his home in Mamfe earlier in the week under the pretext he was travelling to Limbe for medical attention, but his true destination was actually Mile three, Bamenda, where the student lived.
The female student, visibly in her early twenties, wasn’t expecting her school mate boyfriend to show up unannounced.
Eyewitnesses said when the boyfriend barged into her room after suspecting she was cheating with the married man from Mamfe, a fight immediately broke out after bitter exchanges.
The fight got so heated that the male student reached for a sharp knife and drove it into the man’s body, digging in as hard as his adrenaline pushed him to.
Images of the married man lying in a pool of his own blood in a visibly scanty room that had a mattress placed on the floor, soon went viral on social media. So too did images of the wailing girl student being interrogated in front of her room by police officers.
Details of the story were still sketchy by the time we went to press, but reports say a manhunt has been launched to track down the killer-student.
In a similar story, a man is said to have chopped off his girlfriend’s hand in the small village of Modele in Menchum Valley subdivision, North West region, over the weekend.
While investigations are still on-going to determine what sparked the incident, the girl, a primary school teacher, is receiving medical care at the Wum district hospital. The boyfriend is in custody after security forces saved him from an angry mob already rendering jungle justice on him.
