Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, also Chairman of the Board of Directors of HSPC, will proceed, on 14 March 2015 to Bertoua, in the eastern region of the country, for the opening of local gas centre.
With an investment of 5 billion Cfa francs, this infrastructure with a capacity of 100 tonnes reprocessed by the HSPC will booster this source of energy consumption in the eastern region.
The gas centre in Bertoua should give people access to fuel at the official price of 6,500 francs Cfa for 12 KG bottle.
Indeed, so far, domestic gas consumed in the East is acquired from the deposits of Cameroonian society of petroleum deposits in Yaoundé and Douala, before being moved by road to Bertoua and the surrounding communities.
Because of the exorbitant transport costs, the bottle is sold to populations at between 8,000 and 10,000 CFAF in some localities in the eastern region.
This new center has come as a strategy for promoting the consumption of household gas in Cameroon, in order to avoid desertification (in the North) and deforestation (in the South), consequences of the use of firewood in households.
The household gas Center in Bertoua is the 2nd to be built by HSPC, after that of Maroua, in the region of the far North.
