Buea council hands over VIP ward, chapel to Regional Hospital Annex

Dr. George Enow Orock, Director of the Regional Hospital Annex, Buea has said the 12-room VIP ward under construction at the hospital will be named “Ekema Patrick Unit” after the Mayor of Buea, Ekema Patrick Esunge.

Dr. Enow Orock was speaking during a dual ceremony to officially handover a chapel constructed by the Buea Council for the Buea Regional Hospital Mortuary and a tour to assess work on the various projects undertaken by the council within the municipality. The twin events took place on Friday, November 21, 2014.

After receiving the Chapel and handing it over for dedication to the service of God and humanity, Dr. Enow Orock said for the first time, mourners will have the opportunity to say goodbye-prayers to their departed loved ones within the precincts of the mortuary.

After prayers of dedication from the chaplain of the Hospital, Rev Mary Wose, Dr. Enow Orock urged the mayor of Buea to equip the chapel with benches and a trolley.

In response, Mayor Ekema said the council will do all within its means to provide benches, a trolley and other facilities for the chapel to be put to use.

The delegation paid a visit to the flower market under construction at the mouth of the regional hospital. The 8 stalls under construction will serve as a market for the sale of natural flowers.

At the site where a borehole is being drilled to guarantee the constant availability of water at the hospital, both the Buea Council and Regional Hospital officials expressed satisfaction with the pace of work.

When the delegation visited the 12-room-VIP ward under construction, it was a visibly happy Director of the Buea Regional Hospital Annex who said the structure is indeed the best Christmas gift he’s ever had, given that contractors promise to handover the project by mid-December.

Dr. Enow Orock poured out his emotions in the following words: “This is the best Christmas gift I’ve ever had in my life. This is what we have longed for and finally, it is here. I’ll seek clearance form hierarchy so that this ward will be named ‘the Ekema Patrick Unit’. We’ll keep one room for the medical doctor, one for the nurses and we’ll evenly reserve the other 10 for males and females. This ward meets with international standards and we’ll equip it as such.”

This 2014, the Investment Budget of the Buea Council was largely spent in the domain of health care and education.
