Buea council wages war against unauthorized churches, bars

The Buea council has engaged an initiative to regulate the activities of unauthorized churches and noisy bars within the municipality which reportedly have been obstructing the quiet enjoyment of inhabitants.

The decision was the focus of last September 30 extra-ordinary session of the council which was chaired by Fako chief executive, Zang III at the deliberating hall of the Buea council.

During the extra-ordinary session, the councillors equally endorsed a municipal deliberation prohibiting the re-emergence of drinking spots situated 1KM from the campus of the University of Buea.

As part of the council’s move to alleviate the perennial water problem faced by inhabitants in Buea, a memorandum of understanding was signed with some Chinese partners which will enable them commence the immediate drilling of bore holes within the Bokwango Na’anga area and around the Buea general hospital.

The contract to last one year was signed on behalf of the council by the mayor, Ekema Patrick Esunge and Gao Silai, managing director of the Chinese group, Ets Dongbe Dajing.

The council, during the session equally committed itself to enhance hygiene and sanitation by taking a strong stance against the placement and sale of perishable goods on naked ground in the markets.

The council will within a defined time frame complete some projects within the municipality to include the Chapel at the Buea regional hospital and water projects in the Bonavada, Bojongo and Buea central Areas.

In a press release issued at the end of the session, the council announced the construction of a flower market beside the Buea regional hospital as well as the building of a municipal restaurant to serve the entire population of the municipality.

Councillors at the meeting hailed the vision bearer of the council, Ekema Patrick for initiating giant development projects within the municipality. The mayor for his part called on the councillors to remain committed towards the development of the municipality which they insisted lies in their hands.

Meanwhile, the supervisory authority, Zang III was categorical that should the council continue at the same pace, the municipality will soon become an enviable one. Zang III then reminded the councillors of their task as development propellers in their communities.
